Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education 

At Arden Forest Infant School, we want every child to feel Included, Inspired and Successful. Our close relationships with children and families help us understand their different experiences, strengths and needs. Through PSHE, we give children the language, knowledge and confidence to understand themselves, build caring relationships and know when and how to ask for help.

From Reception to Year 2, children learn about feelings, friendship, different families, healthy choices, personal boundaries and staying safe, including online. We have chosen Jigsaw as our PSHE scheme because it gives children a clear sequence of learning and revisits important ideas as they grow. We adapt its teaching to the infant years and to the children in each class. Stories, play, discussion and practical activities help children ask questions, consider other people’s views and practise making thoughtful choices.

This learning brings our values of respect, responsibility, empathy, honesty and tolerance into everyday life. Children learn to listen and speak truthfully, recognise how others may feel, respect differences and take responsibility for their actions. By revisiting and applying these ideas, they become better able to manage feelings, work with others, persevere through challenges and speak up when something does not feel right. These foundations support their wellbeing, learning across the curriculum and move to the next stage of education.
